Although Beitske Visser has announced that she will make her car racing debut in the Adac Formula Masters Championship in 2012, she has also decided to use every opportunity to compete again in karting, a discipline she loves. This is why she moved to Southern Italy last weekend, on 3-4 March, for the first WSK Master Series meeting. Visser was very fast, but unfortunately she was involved in several incidents that prevented her from achieving a better result.
The WSK Master Series is full of fond memories for Beitske Visser, including several meeting victories, the KZ2 title in 2010 and a second place in KZ1 in 2011. For her first competition of the season, the Dutch driver was eager to get a good result. Perfectly prepared physically after spending the winter training hard, Beitske immediately joined the lead pack with her Intrepid-TM on the circuit of La Conca. "The qualifying session went smoothly, I set the third fastest time and came just 0.04 seconds short of the pole position", she commented.
By refining the set-up of her kart as well as managing tyre wear, she secured a 4th position on the grid of Saturday's Final 1. "I was really fast at the beginning of the race. Halfway through the race I was third and felt very calm behind the two leaders. Unfortunately I got a puncture in a rear tyre and my kart became increasingly hard to drive". A disappointed Beitske Visser had to settle for 7th place, not knowing yet that the next day would be even worse.
"That puncture increased tyre wear and I found myself in difficulty in Sunday's two heats. To make matters worse, there was a collision at the start of Final 2. I lost a few positions and in addition to that my kart was damaged in the incident. But despite it all I made an impressive effort to catch up. I passed about a driver a lap, but I had to withdraw from the race when my drive chain broke".
Luckily Beitske Visser will have many other opportunities to shine in 2012...
Busy Racing Calendar for Beitske
Beitske Visser's programme for 2012 will include the 8-meeting Adac Formula Masters Championship and about 10 karting meetings. In karts, the World Cup for KZ1 will be obviously Visser's main goal, since she is looking forward to use all the experience she has gained in previous races to best prepare herself for this major event with the Intrepid and Tec-Sav teams. But from the end of March, Beitske will join the Motopark team on the car racing circuit of Oschersleben for her single-seater debut, taking another important step in her rise to the top!
