France Angerville 04.05.08 European Championship

The first sunny weekend of the season was extremely successful for the pilots of the foundation "Julie Tonelli pour l'Enfance", thanks to seven podiums and two victories.

Demanse Dominates the Championship
The numerous pilots running for Tonelli in KZ2 all obtained good results. The best was French Joffrey Demanse, who dominated during the entire week-end. Joffrey began with en excellent second place during timed practice and afterwards he was always among the best. He was 2nd in race 1 and even improved in race 2, when he brilliantly won, thus taking the lead in the overall ranking as well. Also noteworthy was the performance of Mathias Gallepe, who was always among the best five in an extremely competitive category. Mathias ended fifth and seventh and scored important points. Pierre-Etienne Chaumat, an emerging pilot that has made his karting debut this year, had a positive performance in Angerville and was always around the 15th place. Last but not least, adorable Lucie Panackova showed that her pretty look does not prevent her from competing fiercely on the track. Although she was disappointed by the results obtained during the weekend, the public was nonetheless excited about her spectacular catching ups.

Thonon and Mich on the Podium in KZ1
The great favourite, Belgian Jonathan Thonon dominated the KZ1. Although he was behind in the starting grid, Jonathan never gave up and won race 1 and ended 2nd in race 2 and he is obviously leader of the Championship. Thomas Mich made important progress with his equipment and conquered a podium in race 2, thus reaching the 3rd place in the overall ranking. The big surprise of the day was young Norman Nato, who made his debut in the top category of 125 gearbox karts. Norman proved to be extremely determined and fully aware of his skills and of his team's strength, and competed confidently with famous pilots, some of whom are twice his age. He ended 5th in the overall ranking after a 5th and 6th place in the two finals.

Convers, an Emerging Pilot in KF1
Although a 10" penalty for excessive speed at the start delayed Armand Convers during the heats, he then fought hard to reach the 2nd position in race 2 and to climb to this same position in the overall ranking. Without that penalty he would probably be in the lead now… Jean-Philippe Guignet mounted on the podium thanks to his equipment, which was finally competitive. After a difficult 2007 season as far as motorisations are concerned, Jean-Philippe now picks the fruits of the great job accomplished. The same cannot be said for Davide Forè, who achieved modest results for a pilot of his skill. In Angerville, however, there were some signs of improvement for the Italian pilot, as far as the mechanical performance is concerned. As to Alban Varutti and Anthony Abbasse, they were able to improve their chassis but only Alban took advantage of this and finished in the top 10, while Anthony encountered a number of minor problems that prevented him from achieving a positive result.
