An unusual problem that affected Beitske Visser's racing chassis made her weekend a lot more complicated at the WSK Euro Series in Portimao. Her timed session was affected and the Dutch girl started far back on the grid. So her goal became to recover as much as possible, in order to score a few points and perform at the same level as the leaders. Mission accomplished...
The Portuguese round of the WSK Euro Series was not all rest at all for Beitske Visser due to a chain of unfortunate events. "Free practice was difficult; I could not improve my times as much as I had hoped. And we also had fewer tests than usual due to track availability limits. So I had one of my worst qualifying sessions in a long time, since I was only 21st on the Friday evening timesheet".
The decision was made to use a different chassis on Saturday. It was a wise idea and Beitske was much faster this time and moved up the standings. Despite her two sixth places, she was not particularly optimistic. "Perhaps it was a manufacturing defect that caused the problem, but what is certain is that it increased tyre wear, which is already very high in Portimao. So I had to deal with this handicap for most of the weekend. And what is more, in Final 1, there were several false starts and some very slow formation laps. My carburettor got filled with too much fuel and I lost ground". Though she was forced to start from 34th place (instead of 12th!), Beitske staged a remarkable recovery anyway, up to 15th, despite some much worn tyres.
"I had to use again the same set of tyres for Sunday morning heats, in order to keep my four new tyres for Final 2, where I finally had again a competitive kart. This time, it all went ok. I knew that starting on 30th position would make things complicated, but I did everything I could anyway". Determined as usual, the driver with Praga colours finally climbed up from 30th to 13th, and also set the fourth best lap time in the race. Beitske secured her place in the top 5 this time, too! "I would like to thank all my team and my engine tune-up specialist Tec-Sav for their work, which in the end proved successful. I am really looking forward to transforming this genuine competitiveness into some good result..."
A Kart, Car and Motorbike Complex
It was the second time that Beitske Visser raced at the extraordinary and modern international circuit of Algarve (southern Portugal), near Portimao. Built a few years ago, this karting track was integrated by a vast complex including a large car-motorbike circuit, which has already hosted two World Championships (Tourism-WTCC and GT1). This year, the talent of the Dutch girl was in the spotlight on the karting circuit of Portimao. But maybe we will have to move soon to the nearby track to continue following her career...
