Léo Roussel has regained his place of best Frenchman of the World KF1 Championship, a real springboard for the best hopefuls of karting wishing to start a career in car racing. After a difficult race in Spain, the driver from Equipe de France FFSA and the Ludo Racing team have raised again their head in Belgium to re-enter the top 5. Technical cooperation with Sodikart continues to be very fruitful, as also shown by the 4th place achieved in the U18 World Championship.
Thanks to the support of many partners, Léo Roussel has not hesitated to take up several challenges in 2011. "With the Ludo Racing team, we had an excellent season in the Junior category (KF3) in 2010 and we decided to continue together at the highest level, by engaging on several fronts: World KF1 Championship (the elite of karting), U18 (under 18) World Championship and the French Championship "Espoir". Considering that this is our first year at this level, we are very competitive and I improve at each race. I have acquired great experience over the last few months and this will be useful for the rest of my career".
It must be said that Léo Roussel is often among the fastest drivers on track at the wheel of his Sodi-Parilla. In France, on the circuit of Essay, at the second round of the U18 Championship, he posted right away the second fastest time in timed qualifying and then won two qualifying heats as well as setting two best lap times. "I also had a problem with the starter in a heat and that dropped me down the order. So I had to start from 9th place in the final". Léo did not give up and after an excellent start it did not take him long to regain ground. The technical choices made by his team went in the right direction. The driver from Equipe de France set the second fastest time in the race and concluded his performance with a fantastic 4th place. "Pity that the first three drivers had opened up a gap. I realised I was faster than them, but the chequered flag dropped before I could catch up with the leaders".
After this brilliant result, Léo Roussel was back on the track of Genk (Belgium) a week later, for the third of the five rounds of the World KF1 Championship. "I came fully confident and firmly determined to confirm my potential. In the free practice sessions, I saw that my Parilla engines were really fast, while Sodi had worked very well on its chassis. Already in timed qualifying I moved up to 4th, but I was involved in a crash at the start of Final 1". Determined to take his revenge, he brilliantly climbed his way up from 18th to 5th place by keeping a tremendous pace.
Then the young French karter achieved a 7th, a 4th and a 5th place in the other three finals. Once again, Léo has come very close to a podium finish although he races with drivers who are much more experienced than he is. He is back in the Championship top 10 where he has taken 9th. "He is a self-willed and very determined driver. Despite the high level of the competitions he enters, he has no complex about it and he pleasantly surprises us at each race. The end of the season is approaching under the best auspices, both at international level and in France, in the GPO series, where he is currently 4th with some chances of becoming French champion", concluded Ludovic Veve, his team manager.
