During the last few weeks, Esteban Ocon has experienced a long series of victories and podiums conquered both at a national and international level. This karter, supported by Gravity Sport Management, is still comfortable leader of the French KF3 Championship, but most of all he has brought home some important points in the WSK Euro Series, where all the best junior drivers in the world compete. This French hopeful is now determined to fight for the title at the last round, due to be held in Spain at the end of July, without forgetting the World Cup and the European Championship, which are already on the horizon.
An Important Podium
After his victory in Sarno (Italy) at the opening meeting of the WSK Euro Series, Esteban Ocon had a frustrating experience at the following meeting in Portimao (Portugal). A personal mistake and a small technical problem caused him to lose some precious points in the Championship. Well determined to forget this slip-up, it did not take Esteban long to find his way to the podium again during a race where a cool head was essential... especially considering the hot temperatures in southern Italy...
8th in the timed session, he ran a clean race in the qualifying heats and collected three second places, one third place and one victory. "With the new track surface at La Conca, there were a lot of tyre residues building up on the track", Esteban commented. "Sometimes the situation was physically demanding and it was hard to keep the kart on the right trajectory, especially in the KF3 pack where gaps between drivers are tiny and nobody gives up an inch". Starting 3rd in the pre-final at the wheel of his FA Kart-Vortex, the Gravity driver climbed fast to 2nd and managed to keep his place until the end. Positioned on the outside of the final race grid, Esteban had a hard time at the start. Third at the end of the first lap, he concluded the race in this position. "Given the problems experienced by the championship leader, it was important to make the podium and score as many points as possible. I am well placed in the general standings and I will do everything I can to go for the WSK Euro Series title at the final meeting in Zuera (Spain)".
What is more, recent races by Esteban Ocon gave him a chance to deepen relations with the Genikart team, which integrated him in April. Now there is an atmosphere of growing confidence between them, which will allow Esteban to give his maximum effort at important future events...
Supremacy in France
It was with great motivation and determination that Esteban Ocon raced in May at two rounds of the French KF3 Championship, held in the framework of the very stimulating GPO series. After his double podium at Varennes, the driver from the Rosny 93 club started his weekend with a second place in Final 1. A small incident on Sunday forced him back to 31st place at the start of Final 2, but that did not stop him from driving brilliantly to get up to 5th after a long series of overtaking manoeuvres. Three weeks later at Ostricourt, he was the undisputed master of this long and technical track (1,500 m). Both on Saturday and Sunday, he took pole position, won the pre-final and then the final, showing both a calm attitude and high level of performance. He has already built a good advantage in the championship, which he intends to manage at best in the next two meetings.
