Toujours plus tôt en 2017 ! Cette formule peut aussi bien s'appliquer au lancement de la saison internationale qu'à l'âge des pilotes des catégories OK-Junior et OK. Le calendrier 2017 a en effet débuté fin janvier par la WSK Champions Cup sur le circuit d'Adria, avant d'enchainer une semaine plus tard par le premier rendez-vous de la WSK Super Master Series sur la même piste. Si les effectifs étaient à la hauteur avec la présence de la plupart des pilotes et des équipes de pointe, le temps s'est avéré un peu trop extrême pour des courses de karting. Au froid de la Champions Cup a succédé l'humidité constante et très fraîche de la Super Master. De mémoire de spécialiste, on n'avait pas connu de compétition disputée entièrement en pneus pluie depuis plusieurs décennies. Ce n'était sans doute pas la meilleure entrée en matière pour les jeunes pilotes découvrant le OK-Junior à moins de 12 ans ou le OK à moins de 14 ans...
Heureusement, le temps agréable qui a régné sur Lonato après la mi-février a redonné le sourire à tout le monde ou presque. Les conditions favorables de la 22e Winter Cup en ont fait la véritable ouverture de la saison et les forces en présence ont pu s'exprimer de manière significative. Bien qu'il soit encore trop tôt pour tirer un bilan définitif, on a pu constater que l'abaissement d'un an de l'âge d'accès aux catégories internationales OK et OK-Junior n'a pas posé de problème particulier. Comme on pouvait s'y attendre, le plateau OK a déjà enregistré un accroissement significatif. Les ex-Juniors passés nombreux en OK se sont vite montré à la hauteur de leurs aînés beaucoup plus expérimentés, au point de leur contester la victoire sans aucun complexe.
Le niveau en OK-Junior n'est plus aussi relevé que par le passé et la hiérarchie est loin d'y être figée. La catégorie apparaît comme une bonne entrée en matière dans la compétition de haut niveau et il pourrait bien ne plus être nécessaire d'enchainer les saisons en Junior. Son attrait s'en trouve élargi et on peut espérer ainsi une plus grande démocratisation de l'échelon international.
Les séries européennes Rotax et X30 ont également débuté, mais le nombre de pilotes n'est pour l'instant pas à la hauteur de la réputation de ces deux coupes de marque généralement très appréciées.

The 2017 calendar started at the end of January with the WSK Champions Cup on the Adria circuit, followed by a week later by the first WSK Super Master Series event on the same track. Although the numbers were up to par with the presence of most of the drivers and teams, the weather proved to be too extreme for kart racing. The cold of the Champions Cup was succeeded by the constant and very cool humidity of the Super Master Series. In the memory of a specialist, there had not been a competition run entirely in rain tyres for several decades. This was probably not the best debut for young drivers learning about OK-Junior aged under 12 years or OK at under 14 years ...
Fortunately, the pleasant weather that prevailed on Lonato after mid-February gave everyone a smile, or almost everyone. The favourable conditions of the 22nd Winter Cup made it the true opening of the season and those involved were able to express themselves significantly. Although it is still too early to draw a definitive balance sheet, it was found that the one-year lowering of the access age to the OK and OK-Junior international categories was not a particular problem. As expected, the OK entry has already registered a significant increase. The ex-juniors moving up in numbers to OK soon proved themselves up to the standard of their elders who were much more experienced, to the point of challenging for victory without any hesitation.
The OK-Junior standard is no longer as high as in the past and the hierarchy is far from fixed. The category appears as a good entry to high level competition and it may well be no longer necessary to complete several seasons in Junior. Its attractiveness has been widened and there are hopes for greater democratisation at the international level.
The European series for Rotax and X30 have also started, but the number of drivers is not yet up to the reputation of these two generally appreciated brand trophies.
